Privacy policy

This policy explains how Jess Phillips’s campaign for Nelson City Council collects, uses and protects personal information through this website.

Who we are

This website belongs to Jess Phillips’s campaign for Nelson City Council in the October 17, 2026 general local election. The campaign’s financial agent is Jess Phillips, reachable at jessphillips4nelson@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Contact form: your name, email address and message, and whether you asked for campaign updates.
  • Contribution declarations: the amount, your full name, home address, email, phone number if you give one, and your answers to the eligibility declarations.
  • Lawn sign requests: your name, street address, and an email or phone number if you give one, so a volunteer can deliver a sign.
  • Server logs: our web host, Netlify, records basic technical information such as IP addresses to run and protect the site.
  • Analytics, only if you say yes: a banner asks before anything loads. If you accept, Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, sees how many people visit the site and which pages they read: cookies, your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. If you decline, or don’t answer, none of it runs and no analytics cookie is set. It never receives anything you enter into a form on this site; it does record that a form was submitted, but not what was in it.

This site doesn’t use advertising trackers.

Why we collect it

  • To reply to your message.
  • To send you campaign updates, only if you asked for them.
  • To record contributions and report them to Elections BC, as BC’s Local Elections Campaign Financing Act requires.
  • To see how many people are finding and reading the site, so the campaign can spend its volunteers’ time on what’s actually working.

Who can see it

Jess and campaign volunteers who need it to reply to you, deliver a sign, or record a contribution. Contributor information is reported to Elections BC as the law requires, and some of it appears in the campaign’s public disclosure statement. If you accept the cookie banner, Google can see the analytics information described above, under its own privacy policy; if you decline, it sees nothing. The campaign doesn’t sell your information or share it with anyone except as described here.

Where it’s stored

Form submissions are stored in the campaign’s account with Netlify, our web host, a copy of each one is emailed to the campaign’s Gmail account, and each one is added to a spreadsheet in the campaign’s Google account. Analytics information is stored by Google. All of these services may store information outside Canada. The financial agent keeps contribution records with the campaign’s financial records, and matches each declaration to the e-Transfer received in the campaign’s bank account.

How long we keep it

The financial agent keeps contribution records until the campaign’s reporting to Elections BC is complete, and Jess then keeps them for five years after general voting day, until October 17, 2031, as the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act requires.

Contact messages, the list of people who asked for campaign updates, and declarations that weren’t followed by a contribution are deleted by January 31, 2027, once the campaign’s reporting is finished.

Analytics information is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months, then deleted automatically.

Your choices

You can ask to see or correct the personal information the campaign holds about you, or stop receiving updates, by emailing jessphillips4nelson@gmail.com. You can also send a message through this website.

Analytics only runs if you accept the banner that appears on your first visit. You can change your answer at any time from the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page, or block or delete analytics cookies in your browser’s settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).
